Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former International Monetary Fund chief and living Pepé Le Pew instantiation who was arrested last May for raping a hotel maid, will see the charges against him formally dropped tomorrow, according to his accuser's lawyer.

Update: It turns out prosecutors filed the paperwork this afternoon, according to the New York Times. They have asked the judge to dismiss all the charges:

The nature and number of the complainant's falsehoods leave us unable to credit her version of events beyond a reasonable doubt, whatever the truth may be about the encounter between the complainant and the defendant. If we do not believe her beyond a reasonable doubt, we cannot ask a jury to do so.

Accuser Nafissatou Diallo's lawyer told reporters that the Manahattan District Attorney's office called her in for a meeting today to inform her that they are dropping the charges because they no longer find her to be a credible witness. Diallo claims Strauss-Kahn grabbed her breasts and forced his penis into her mouth on May 14 when she entered his room at New York's Sofitel hotel to clean it. After Strauss-Kahn was arrested—and jailed for the weekend—her story began to crumble, as prosecutors discovered she had lied about her actions immediately following the assault, allegedly discussed Strauss-Kahn's wealth with an associate, and lied about being gang-raped on her application for asylum in the U.S.

Diallo is pursuing her own civil complaint against Strauss-Kahn, and her attorney has filed an emergency, long-shot motion asking the judge in her case to appoint a special prosecutor.

I guess it's always nice to see the wheels of justice and prosecutorial discretion working on behalf of obscenely wealthy white men.
