An air of excitement and danger swirled around Portland's Arbor Lodge Park this morning, as a bomb squad cordoned off the area and detonated a tennis ball suspected of being a homemade bomb.

According to a Portland Police Bureau press release, someone had called 911 saying they'd found "a soda bottle wrapped in tape that appeared to have already exploded, as well as two tennis balls wrapped in tape with an exposed wire." One of those two balls appeared to have already detonated, but the other ball looked ready to explode at any moment. The ball was successfully blown up, and life returned to normal for the citizens of Portland. [PortlandOnline.com, image via Shutterstock]
