Serbian War Criminal Ratko Mladić Arrested
A Serbian Interior Ministry official told Reuters today that a man bearing "some physical features" of Ratko Mladić — the former Chief of Staff of the Bosnian Serb Army and noted war criminal — has been arrested, pending a DNA test.
Update: Speaking on television, Serbia's president confirms that it is Mladić in custody.
Serbia's entry into the European Union is said to have been held up by the fact that Mladić was still at large and that little had been done to apprehend him. Reports over the years have suggested that Mladić was living a good life, possibly with help from the Serbian government. Reuters reports that the man in custody was arrested following an anonymous tip. Serbia's reward for Mladić was recently bumped up to 10 million euros (on top of the U.S. government's reward of $5 million).
