You can buy anything on eBay, from Princess Beatrice's hat to some teen's virginity—even a piece of the moon. A Southern California woman hocking a purported moon rock on eBay was busted by an undercover sting operation.

Police detained her and took her rock, after she made a deal with an undercover NASA agent for $1.7 million. (NASA has undercover agents? This needs to be a new primetime drama "Stat.") NASA is now testing the rock to see if it's legit. It's illegal to sell any of the 22,000 lunar rocks brought back from various Apollo missions, but of course this has not prevented a huge black market from springing up.

We can definitely see the appeal of owning a moon rock. Especially for evil billionaires: Set it in a sturdy platinum band and you've got the perfect ring to adorn your pinky as you stroke your hairless cat.
