Here's Your First Big Obama Poll Boost
The first quickie poll of President Obama's approval rating since the killing of Osama bin Laden is in, and the predicted boost is definitely materializing.
The Washington Post/Pew survey conducted yesterday shows 56 percent of Americans approving of Obama's job performance, with 38 percent disapproving. That's an increase of nine percentage points in approval since the Post's two April polls, and "the highest approval rating for the president in either poll since 2009." Obama's approval on "Terrorism" is 69 percent, with 21 percent disapproving.
So is he a lock for reelection in 2012 now? No! People will forget this in a few days when Donald Trump moons the White House from the top of the Washington Monument and we spend the next few weeks babbling about that. The economy is still permanently terrible, and Obama's approval rating on that is only 40%, with 55% disapproving.
On the other hand, good luck to Republican presidential candidates who choose to go down the "Obama is soft on terror" path, because Obama has a pretty effective response for that now.
