Overheard: Obama's Private Conversation with Donors
Sneaky CBS Radio News reporter Mark Knoller listened in to a private chat between the president and elite donors following a Chicago fundraiser last night. The president had no idea that this reporter could still hear the feed! Naughty Mark Knoller. Anyway, what's the dirt?
- Obama on federal employees: "What's striking when you enter into the federal government," Obama said, "is how generally smart and dedicated people are." How nice! On the other hand, some employees "are slugs and not trying to do their job. But that's true of any large institution." HEADLINE: Obama Hates All Government Workers.
- Obama on White House technology: The White House is "like 30 years behind" with regard to technology. "I always thought I was gonna have like really cool phones and stuff," Obama, 12, said. "We can't get our phones to work... Come on, guys. I'm the president of the United States! Where's the fancy buttons and stuff and the big screen comes up? It doesn't happen." That's, like, really not cool.
- Obama on budget negotiations with John Boehner: "I said, 'You want to repeal health care? Go at it. We'll have that debate. You're not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we're stupid?'"
This answers every question you ever had about the man, yes?
