Writer/filmmaker Davy Rothbart's recent New York Magazine faking orgasm article was filled with (allegedly) porn-induced sad sex and delusions. Eww! Thankfully, in a documentary premiering this month, he's redeemed as a "terminally romantic", bemused savant looking for love.

My Heart Is An Idiot was shot over two years on tour for FOUND Magazine, with co-founder Davy and his brother Peter. Although ostensibly the FOUND mag founder can't find love - the doc is a love story, capturing the romance of the tour van in a way that many films attempt but don't achieve. As fans of his work on This American Life know, Davy is thoughtful, curious and complex. What isn't as well known is that he spends his time obsessing about women, but driving them away through actual and imagined distances. This road film hugs the curves of Davy's love life, featuring an endless array of pretty hopeful girls. The tour performances are hilarious, and the doc stays busy with a Travel Channel-worthy immersion into the culture of over one hundred cities they visit. The director has a strong taste for the absurd, which lightens the film and captures the essence of the Rothbarts' art and temperaments. Best: Zooey Deschanel's questionable pep talk and always cute Ira Glass, who nails what's wrong with all of us.
