Confederate racist ex-Senator George "Macaca" Allen is running to reclaim the Virginia Senate seat he lost in 2006 by being racist, or at least widely interpreted by everyone as such. But that's all over now! No more needless racial flare-ups on this campaign! Except for the comical one that just happened, and maybe more down the line.

Allen apparently met with Washington's NBC4 reporter-anchor Craig Melvin, a tall African-American man, several days ago. Allen knew just the icebreaker to use in this situation, which Melvin then relayed in a cutting tweet: "For the 2nd time in 5 months, fmr. gov. and sen candidate George Allen asks me, 'what position did you play?' I did not a play a sport." Oh ho ho!

After shitting his pants, Allen tweeted, "sorry if I offended, ask people a lot if they played sports Grew up in fball family found sports banter good way to connect." All of which is technically true.

Was Melvin being "too sensitive"? Is political correctness destroying America, or even worse, George Allen's individual political prospects? Let's have a National Conversation About Race, in the comments.
