A Complete Face Transplant Is Now Possible
Doctors at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston completed a complete face transplant on Dallas Wiens, a construction worker who suffered severe burns to his face in 2008 when his head came into contact with an electric wire during an accident.
The accident left Texas resident Weins without a nose, eyebrows, or lips and he is completely blind, as seen in this photo taken before his transplant. After the procedure, which took 30 doctors more than 15 hours to complete, Weins will have a nose and lips and the skin, muscles, and nerves of the face will be replaced. He will remain blind. The new face was given by an anonymous donor. Let's hope for his sake it wasn't Renee Zellweger.
