One Third of Staten Island Is On Pain Pills
In New York City, the WSJ reports, prescriptions for (generic Oxycontin) have doubled in the past three years. Doubled! There are a million prescriptions in the city now, one for every eight people.
A prosecutors says people need to be "better informed" about the drugs, but uh, I don't think that's the problem. What's the problem? As usual, the problem is Staten Island.
Staten Island is the borough most inundated with oxycodone, Ms. Brennan testified. Last year, on a per-capita basis, the number of oxycodone prescriptions filled in Staten Island represented an "astounding" 28% of the borough's population, she said.
"If you combine that with the number of prescriptions filled for Vicodin, you get to 33% of the population," she said.
You can't blame Wu-Tang any more, S.I.
