Prisoners Are America's Strongest Union
Organized labor in America is a pitiful shadow of its former might. There's one exception, though: prison inmates.
The NYT reports that inmates in seven different prisons have used cell phones to coordinate a strike.
Inmates said they would not perform chores, work for the Corrections Department's industrial arm or shop at prison commissaries until a list of demands are addressed, including compensation for their work, more educational opportunities, better food and sentencing rules changes.
That's better than the UAW, these days! All it took for organized labor to revive itself was a prison-industrial complex. Good work, everyone.
