What's Opening in Theaters Today
This is the first Friday of the last month for 2010 movie releases! With that meaningless distinction in mind, we turn today to look at ballet nightmares, gay fantasias, and very bad Christmases.
Black Swan
Our new favorite movie has everything you'd ever want: Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman kissing Mila Kunis, Mila Kunis groping Natalie Portman, and Mila Kunis going down on Natalie Portman. I mean, is there more you want from movies? You're kind of greedy. (Limited release)
All Good Things
Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst star in this long-delayed drama/mystery based on the real life story of a rich guy who, y'know, maybe killed his wife. It looks great, but reviews are mixed. (Limited)
I Love You, Phillip Morris
This movie about Gawker Media writers trying to quit smoking Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor being gay lovers who are gay together and totally gay has had a long road coming to multiplexes, but here, finally, it is. Well... (NY, LA, SF only)
Night Catches Us
Anthony Mackie and Kerry Washington star in this Philadelphia-set drama about a former Black Panther who returns home to intimidate Megyn Kelly reconcile with the past. (Limited release)
Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale
This completely not insane and totally normal movie from not-at-all weird country Finland is about an earthquake that releases the real Santa Claus, a monster that punishes bad people. Then some Finnish people capture the Santa monster and try to sell it. So, just a regular movie for regular people in these regular times. (Limited release)
The Warrior's Way
This is some weird mashup of martial arts and Western movies or something and I've watched the trailer twice now and I still don't "get" it. Geoffrey Rush, Danny Huston, and Kate Bosworth are all in it! So that doesn't help me get it at all. Basically if you just got home from eighth grade and are reading this and have a penis, you will probably love this movie. (Limited release)
