Sad Postal Service Contractor Charged for Dumping Mail in Woods
A New Jersey postal contractor driver has been charged with the old-timey crime of "desertion of mails," for a May incident in which he just dumped 32,000 pieces of mail into the woods. He was having a bad day!
Robert Lyons is a driver for Total Mail Systems, a "firm that processes mail before it is sent to the regional postal facility in Bellmawr." At least that's the firm's objective. Sometimes the mail doesn't make it all the way:
CAMDEN - A Deptford man is accused of dumping 32,000 pieces of mail that were supposed to be delivered to a U.S. Postal Service facility.
Robert Lyons, a driver for a postal contractor, allegedly abandoned three pallets holding first-class and bulk-mail pieces in a wooded area in a West Deptford park on the night of May 24, according to a federal criminal complaint.
Lyons claims that he was suffering over that day, and drinking. According to the complaint, though, "Lyons stated that he intended to deliver it another time." Yeah c'mon, everybody just chill out. He had a plan.
