The buzz around Diaspora, a soon-to-be-released, privacy-centric social network, is so strong that the release of its early source code has generated dozens of blog posts. We have no idea what these letters and numbers mean!

But ComputerWorld says "It's no Facebook... yet." Which makes sense, because the team of NYU students who've developed the thing haven't even released an alpha site yet. Mashable says: "this isn't a Facebook competitor, nor is it likely to be within the next several months or longer."

So, big news, everyone: This pile of pre-release code for Diaspora is not—we repeat is NOT—going to kill Facebook.
