The People Selling Twitter Have Never Been Big Twitter Fans
Hooray, revenue! Twitter has just hired its first two sales executives, who will tout Twitter as a very engaging platform for users and, thus, advertisers. Trouble is it hasn't been a very engaging platform for the two executives in question.
West Coast salesperson Amanda Levy comes from Yelp and just inaugurated her Twitter account one week ago. On the East Coast, Dan Coughlin comes from Facebook and, since christening his Twitter account barely two months ago has posted to the microblogging service a grand total of 15 times. Surely Twitter COO Dick Costolo was correct when calling them "important hires" to start a "top-flight sales team." In fact, they've apparently been so busy actually working to make actual money for Yelp and Facebook that they didn't have time for unprofitable distractions like... tweeting.
