Stepmother of Missing Oregon Kid Implicated In Murder-for-Hire Plot
The father of missing Oregon second grader Kyron Horman mysteriously filed for divorce and a restraining order against Kyron's stepmother last week. We now know why. A landscaper told police Terri Horman offered him money to kill her husband.
According to the Oregonian, a landscaper hired by Terri Horman to do yard work at the Horman's rural home in Northwest Portland told police that she offered him "a large sum of money" to kill her husband, Kaine Horman, "six to seven months" before Kyron vanished from his elementary school in early June after Terri Horman dropped him off. When police confronted her with the information, Terri Horman denied the landscaper's account, and she hired a high-powered Portland attorney soon after.
Police told Kaine Horman about the landscaper's allegations last Monday, which kicked off a week of developments that had observers scratching their heads. That evening, Kaine Horman moved out with the couple's 18 month-old daughter and filed for divorce and a restraining order against Terri. Kyron's family then held a bizarre press conference, sans Terri Horman, where Kyron's biological mother begged Terri to cooperate with police. The fact the family had just learned of Terri Horman's alleged murder-for-hire scheme casts the whole week in an ominous light.
While Portland police have not said if Terri Horman is a suspect in Kyron's disappearance, their investigation has increasingly focused on her in recent days. She has undergone at least two polygraph tests (at least one of which indicated some deception, according to the Oregonian), and police were spotted handing out flyers outside Kyron's school with pictures of Terri Horman's truck and face on them. This latest bombshell suggests they're definitely on the right track.
