Cigarettes Are Becoming the Most Expensive Way to Die
July 1st means new taxes start, and yay here's our favorite: the New York City cigarette tax has gone up once again, now making NYC cigarettes the highest taxed in the country. Average pack price in town is now $10.80.
Basically you'll have to rely on those old Asian ladies who walk through bars selling their illegal packs out of trash bags to get any sort of reasonable price, though even their rates have gone up. Used to be like $5, now they're running about $8. What is this world coming to? One hopes they'll start running a charter service to Virginia out of the Port Authority so people can go stock up on cheap cartons.
