LOST: The 10 Most Memorable Scenes
Everyone is aware that LOST is coming to a close with a highly anticipated Sunday finale event. These are some of the best and most memorable scenes from its run, the scenes that come to mind when thinking about LOST.
Or rather, the scenes that come to mind when I think about the show, the ones that exemplify the show's strengths and exhibit the depth of these characters for me. What are some of your favorites?
The Crash
It's tough to start a shower on a stronger note than the crash of Oceanic 815. It's shocking and real and we'll probably never see something quite like this again on network television, if for no other reason than the expense of putting a scene like this together.
Live Together, Die Alone
The moment when Jack steps up as the true de facto leader and organizes. Also a moment when character and situation come together perfectly.
Jack and Desmond
The season 2 premiere did two great things, it deepened the mystery of the Dharma Initiative and it introduced us to Desmond. It also presented one of the better connected-in-a-flashback moment when Jack and Desmond are shown to have had a brief encounter years before both ending up on the island.
Henry Gale Speech
In season 2, when Ben is captured, he tells everyone that his name is Henry Gale and that he crashed on the island in a hot air balloon. Unable to believe him, Sayid checks out his story. When he returns to confront Ben about his lie, we get one of the show's strongest Sayid moments.
Michael Kills
One of the show's most shocking moments was Michael killing Ana Lucia and Libby.
The Death of Charlie
LOST has clearly never worried about killing off major and beloved characters and that was never more true than when Charlie was killed in the finale to season 3.
"We have to go back!"
The season 3 finale, as we know now, was a flash forward and the moment when we were put on the course to see the show end after season 6. The moment of revelation, when Kate steps out of her car after being summoned by a disheveled Jack and hearing him tell her that they "have to go back" was one of the show's absolutely best moments.
The Death of Alex
From when he first appeared in season 2, Ben was basically evil incarnate. This was somewhat softened when his (adopted) daughter Alex was introduced. The scene when she is killed by Widmore's man Keamy is shocking and difficult and also humanizes Ben in a way that seemed nearly impossible for him.
Desmond calls Penny
Perhaps the true love story within LOST is between Desmond and Penny. The moment in season 4 when they finally talk after years of separation is simple, beautiful, heartbreaking and real.
The Oceanic 6
A personal favorite for the artistry of the film making, the scene when the Oceanic 6 step off the plane and are greeted by their families is incredible. Showing both the relief to be home and the instantaneous alienation that their experience on the island has caused, the scene works to be both jarring and beautiful.
