Abduwali Abdukhadir Muse, the Somali pirate lucky(?) enough to be brought to NYC for trial, pleaded guilty yesterday to the failed hijacking of Hero Captain Richard Phillips' ship. His case is unspeakably sad. But it could be worse!

Muse avoided a life sentence, but the NYT says he'll still probably get at least 27 years. His father said that "his son grew up in a nomadic family of goatherds, and that besides taking some Koran classes as a boy, his son was uneducated." His mom is begging Barack Obama for mercy. Jesus.

Sucks to the max, Abduwali. Look on the bright side: at least you're not in Yemen.
