John Cook's Greatest Hits
In case you don't follow the goings-on here at Gawker, we have some sad news for you. Investigative genius John Cook is leaving us for Yahoo-ier pastures today. Let's take a look back at some of our John Cook favorites.
John is the kind of dedicated journalist who will wait outside an asshole's house for very, very long periods of time to get the story:

He has established himself a crusader for the downtrodden (and car trodden) underdog:
Exclusive: Fox Newser Accused of Dragging Cyclist Through Central Park
He has proved himself a dogged digger of facts, exposing the tax dodges of white collar politicians:

He possess marvelous hidden skills. Did you know that John Cook is an excellent body language analyst? It's true:

He cataloged, with grim efficiency, the downfall of an artsy empire:

He took us on exciting trips to Argentina:

He helped bring attention to the bulging Blackwater beer gut:

He frequently took on America's greatest enemy, Nikki Finke:
Why Nikki Finke Never Makes a Mistake
He shed light on a forgotten hero of a confusing war:
But most importantly, perhaps, he gave us the gift of dance:
Katie Couric's Forbidden Dance of Gin
Really the best thing about John Cook is that all of his posts were compelling and thoughtful, he's an almost too-smart guy who isn't willing to go for the shallow dive on anything. In short, he classed up this ratty old joint quite a bit, and his enviable ability to set the bar so high will be sorely missed.
In the coming months he'll be helping to revamp/relaunch Yahoo!'s news blog The Newsroom. We wish him and his family the best of luck. And a speedily fixed Subaru.
