Paul Labrecque

Who
The master hairstylist and makeover guru owns two salons in the city—one on the East Side and one on the West.
Backstory
A native of Boston, Labreque spent time teaching in Florida after graduating from college in 1983 with a degree in education. He soon shifted gears and moved to London to train as a stylist. When he finally returned to the States in the '90s, he opened a modest two-seat salon at the exclusive Reebok Sports Club/NY on the Upper West Side. He's since opened a second location on the Upper East Side, expanded the West Side salon and started offering spa services at the Hotel on Rivington. An avid art collector—he's known for showcasing the work of upcoming artists on the walls of his salons—his A-list clients have included Kevin Bacon, Amy Irving, Hilary Swank, Isabella Rossellini, Lisa Ling, Mariska Hargitay, and Sofia Coppola.
By the numbers
Labreque charges around $400 for a cut.
For the record
Looking for a cut and a boyfriend? Labrecque is known for fixing up his customers with possible romantic matches. In 2001, his salon ran a promotion where Labreque's staff photographed clients after their spa makeovers and then downloaded their shots to a personals website.
Personal
Labreque's longtime romantic partner, Brian Cantor, runs the business side of the company. They live in Tribeca and have an impeccably decorated cottage in Wainscott where they spend weekends.
