Gerald Loughlin

A noted pediatrician, Loughlin is an expert on childhood lung diseases and the chair of the pediatrics department at Weill Cornell Children's Hospital.
Backstory
Raised on the Lower East Side, Loughlin attended medical school at the University of Rochester and earned a Masters from Johns Hopkins. After stints at the University of Arizona and University of Florida, in 1984 he moved back to Baltimore to start up Johns Hopkins' pediatric respiratory program, where he developed a reputation as an expert in treating lung cancer, asthma, and sleep apnea in children. His efforts at turning the hospital into one of the nation's top five pediatric centers led to a slew of offers from hospitals across the country. In 2002, Antonio Gotto Jr. successfully lured him to Weill Cornell with the promise of more research funding and subspecialty pediatricians for his department. Since he's taken over, Loughlin had paid particular attention to strengthening the hospital's pediatric neurology program.
