Who

The daughter of Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, Morgenthau is executive director of the Fresh Air Fund, the non-profit group that sends inner-city kids to the country during summer vacations.

Backstory

Morgenthau comes from a long line of people with fancy titles: Her father is Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau; her grandfather, Henry Morgenthau, was the Secretary of the Treasury under President Franklin D. Roosevelt; and her great-grandfather, Henry Morgenthau Sr., served as Ambassador to Turkey during the Woodrow Wilson administration. Early in her career, Morgenthau worked in the city's Office of Special Services for Children. She stepped into the role of executive director at the Fresh Air Fund in 1983, and has since expanded the organization and raised millions of dollars in funding thanks to her copious political and social connections.

Of note

Founded in 1887 and funded by private individuals (such as Michael Bloomberg, who made a significant donation in 2005), Fresh Air helps more than 10,000 kids escape the city's sweaty summers with trips to the country. Morgenthau oversees five Fresh Air camps upstate, including two named after celebs who have donated to the cause—Camp Mariah (as in Carey) and Camp Tommy (as in Hilfiger). The group also places kids in private homes outside the city for a two-week summer vacation and runs a program during the school year that helps acquaint kids with various career opportunities.

Fresh Air board members include Tom Bernstein, Tiki Barber, Marc Weill (son of Sandy Weill), Tommy Hilfiger, William Lauder, and Caryn Zucker (the wife of Jeff Zucker).

Personal

Morgenthau has been married to her second husband, Eugene Anderson, since 1986. Anderson is a founding partner of the law firm Anderson Kill & Olick and once worked for Jenny's father when he served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District. They live on East 86th Street.
