Michael Gabellini

Who
Gabellini is an architect/interior designer known for his work on expensive retail spaces.
Backstory
The son of a interior designer (and the grandson of a stonemason in Italy), Gabellini graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design before spending four years working for Bill Pedersen at Kohn Pedersen Fox. In 1991, he struck out on his own with Gabellini Associates, later renaming the company Gabellini Shepphard Associates following Kimberly Sheppard's arrival at the firm. Over the past decade and a half, Gabellini has unleashed his critically-applauded minimalist aesthetic upon a number of residential, gallery, and retail projects.
Of note
Gabellini has designed upscale, gallery-like retail bastions for Jil Sander, Nicole Farhi, Giorgio Armani, and Salvatore Ferragamo. He's also designed actual art galleries, including spaces for Grant Selwyn Fine Art and Marion Goodman. On the residential front, he designed Donna Karan's zen-like apartment at 55 Central Park West. One slightly less zen project was the 70th floor observation deck of Rockefeller Center that Gabellini redesigned at the behest of developer Jerry Speyer. (His creation—which bears the cringe-inducing name Top of the Rock—has been a tourist draw since it opened in March 2005.) Currently, Gabellini is at work on a development in Bellevue, WA, called Luxury Village. His marketing materials declare the project the "first luxury enclave in the Pacific Northwest," whatever that means.
Personal
He's married to Nancy Spector, the curator of contemporary art at the Guggenheim Museum. They live in Brooklyn Heights.
