Vogue's International Editor at Large and Anna Wintour's right-hand man, Hamish Bowles is recognized as one of the most influential people in the fashion world.

Bowles was educated at Central Saint Martins; after graduation he remained in London, beginning his career at Harpers & Queen magazine. He started as Fashion Editor in 1984 and climbed the ladder to Style Director by 1989. He joined Vogue in 1992 as Style Editor and was promoted to European Editor at Large in 1995, where he has remained since. Under his title, Bowles heads all interior-design features, writes profiles, and pens articles covering fashion and culture for the monthly mag.

Bowles is not constantly under Anna's reins — she has loosened her grip periodically, allowing him to pursue other endeavors: In 2001, he served as a creative consultant for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute exhibition featuring selections of Jackie O.'s outfits from JFK's years in office, and in 2011 he curated Balenciaga: Spanish Master for the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute. He's also found time to write seven books, offer lectures all over the world, and show off his acting chops in Marie Antoinette and on Gossip Girl. [Image via Getty]
