Who

Hidalgo is one of the city's top plastic surgeons and the former chief of the plastic surgery department at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. He's married to real estate queen Mary Ann Tighe.

Backstory

Hidalgo originally studied to be a painter, a fact he often mentions in interviews when discussing his "artistic" approach to cosmetic surgery. After finishing medical school at Georgetown, Hidalgo moved to New York for his residency and fellowship at NYU, later joining Memorial Sloan-Kettering's plastic surgery department where he primarily worked with cancer patients, specializing in breast reconstruction following mastectomies. In 2000, he stepped down as chief of Sloan-Kettering's plastic surgery department to set up a purely aesthetic private practice. He is now affiliated with New York-Presbyterian and Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital.

Of note

Not surprisingly, boob jobs are a Hidalgo specialty—socialites who've had the good doctor install their breast implants have been known to brag about their "Hidalgos" at Upper East Side parties. He's also widely known for his face lifts. Hidalgo specializes in the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) lift, which also tightens the connective tissue under the skin.

Personal

Hidalgo is married to Mary Ann Tighe, the CEO of CB Richard Ellis. They own an apartment on Fifth Avenue and spend weekends in Southampton. When he's not nipping and tucking, Hidalgo keeps up with his passion for art—his office walls feature his own paintings and drawings.

Pet cause

Hidalgo and Tighe have raised more than $2.4 million for Joan's Legacy, a charity promoting lung cancer research that was set up in honor of Tighe's sister, Joan Scarangello, who died of the disease in 2001. Tom Brokaw, Barbara Walters and Brian Williams hosted the annual gala in 2007.
