Anthony Bourdain Lives the Life in Provence, France
Tonight, Anthony Bourdain traded in bull testicles and bizarre exotic dishes for boiled vegetables and Cotes du Rhone wines, taking in the impossible beauty of Provence.
Tonight's episode was more philosophical and introspective than eye-opening and stomach-turning. Tony spent time in what is arguably the most laid back region of France, whose generally poor agrarian roots have recently turned into a very lucrative tourist industry. He get's 8 AM charcuterie and wine with the locals, tours the winery and moves at the slow pace of the Southern French. It's literally the dream life.
But am I wrong for noticing that the woman who escorts him around is completely uppity? She criticizes his meals, she looks down on non-locals, and basically tells Bourdain that he can never understand a hard life of not working too much. Then again, she is French...
