In case you weren't worried enough about runaway taxis and poison rats, now your scenic balcony that you pay a lot of extra rent for could kill you.

After 24-year-old Connor Donohue plunged 24 stories to his death on Sunday when his balcony gave way, residents of his Murray Hill building are complaining that all the terraces are unsafe and have clearly not been updated or maintained in some time. The building company apparently has some $10,000 in outstanding fines for not attending to the problem three years ago, when they were supposed to. Even better, the problem might be pandemic throughout the city. So really think about whether that view is worth it next time you stumble out through the sliding door for a last cigarette of the night. Because something as unspeakably awful as this could happen. Yay, crumbling New York. [NYP]
