Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy totally reamed the national press corps as a bunch of "despicable" scandalmongers in a screamy speech on the House floor yesterday. The media sprang into action to prove him right.

Kennedy was pissed because there he was, speaking in favor of the extremely righteous cause of bringing an end to the Afghan war, and where was "the media?" Off covering Eric Massa's tickle terror. Leaving aside the fact that the media is only as sex scandal-obsessed as the American public itself, he has a point! Plus this rant against the media got him way more coverage than he would have gotten just ranting against the war in Afghanistan itself. (That old thing, YAWN). The media: always ready to offer wall-to-wall coverage of any story about the media. We really are the worst.
