Should We Put an Age Limit On the Internets? The Sarniagerry Story
Meet Sarniagerry, a 12-year-old Canadian YouTuber who has a zest for life and an abiding love for questionable pop music. She's become somewhat of an internet phenomenon after her 244 Youtube uploads amassed over 400,000 views.
Despite the fact that she owes her popularity to having fun and being herself, one must wonder if it's wise to allow such a youngster access to things like webcams, iphones, social media and the scrutiny and speculation that comes with it. A message scrawled on the top of her youtube channel reads, "My mom now checks all PM's [private messages]." How odd to imagine a parent supervising their child's rise to internet superstardom.
Her rendition of Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" is chock-full of special effects and quick cuts, impressive editing work for a 12-year-old. However, the question remains if everyone's youthful precocity, however endearing, should be unleashed for the entire world to see. Discuss in the comments.
