Ruben Diaz Sr, the worst New York State Senator who has not personally slashed his girlfriend's face with a broken glass (well, maybe besides Pedro Espada), has released a statement blaming Governor David Paterson's woes on gay people.

David Paterson's campaign kick-off on Long Island last weekend did not attract that many supporters, because honestly not that many people support the governor. People have lots of reasons for not supporting the governor, obviously, but Ruben Diaz knows the real reason is that gays are ungrateful bastards who you can't trust ever.

"Where is the gay community now that the Governor needs them?"
[...]
"I remember back on Sunday May 17, 2009, I organized a demonstration of tens of thousands people in front of Governor David Paterson's Manhattan office to protest his staunch support for gay marriage and the Governor stood by the gay community and didn't waver."

"I am not endorsing Governor Paterson but I admire his commitment to those whom he believes are his friends. My father used to say in Puerto Rico ‘My friends are my friends with their virtues and flaws'," said Senator Díaz.

This is rich! Ruben Diaz protested with his bigot friends outside the governor's office, helped kill gay marriage in the Senate, and is now just openly mocking the people whose rights he voted to take away for not standing by the guy who actually took a stand for them, only to be defeated by asshole Ruben Diaz.

Once Democrats took control of both houses of the New York legislature, New York's gay community thought that maybe they would eventually enjoy the same civil rights enjoyed by such heroic pillars of traditional opposite marriage as Rudy Giuliani, Eliot Spitzer, and David Paterson. Accidental governor Paterson demanded that the State Senate actually vote on it instead of tabling it forever like they usually do with everything.

But! There was a problem: four Democratic Senators hated gay people soooo much that they threatened to leave the Democratic party unless they got a promise that gay marriage would not be voted on. (Also, and more imporartly, they wanted lots of money and lots of opportunities to make more money, in the future.) A lot of absolutely insane shit went down and, long story short, no gay marriage, because of Diaz and his friends Monserrate and Carl Kruger.

Back in late 2008, in the middle of this madness, Diaz gave an interview to Liz Benjamin of The Daily News in which he blamed, again, the mess he and his friends created, on "the gays." (And Ed Koch, for some reason!). His clarification of his incomprehensible, bigoted rant did not clarify much. ("I told Liz that the only rat is Ed Koch.")

So: there is your worst human being in all of New York for today, besides the other ones who are worse (many of whom were in fact mentioned in this piece).
