Joan Rivers Goes Ape Sh*t on Larry King Live Over Flight Debacle
On Sunday, Joan Rivers was not allowed to board a Newark-bound flight in Costa Rica because a gate agent deemed her double-named passport "suspicious." Tonight, she went on Larry King Live to tell her side, and hurled insult after insult.
Rivers' live appearance on Kings' show happened at the end of the hour and was split into three short segments, each of which was more hilariously epic than the last. Prepare yourself to see Rivers like you never have before—unless you happened to catch her "You're a pokah playah!" rant against Annie Duke on The Celebrity Apprentice—as she goes on rant after rant, contradicting herself multiple times and making her side of the story even less credible in the process. Ding! Ding! Ding!
Round One: Rivers vs. Gate Agent
Here, Rivers recounts her harrowing tale to King, talking about what led up to the moment when the "moron, idiot" and "premenstrual" gate agent prevented her from boarding the plane because "[her] passport had two names on it."
Advantage, Rivers: Even though Rivers didn't shy away from the insults, at this point it seems like the gate agent pulled her from the line and refused to mediate the situation in a pseudo-power trip that probably could have been resolved more easily.
Round Two: Rivers vs. Logic
Here, King drops a previously unmentioned bombshell: not only did Rivers have two names on her passport, but neither of them matched the name on her boarding pass, which read "Joseph Rosenberg." SAY WHAAA?! Contradictions ensue.
Advantage, Logic: So, not only did her passport have two names, but her boarding pass was wrong, too? Why didn't she mention this before? And why can she still not understand why airline staff may have been acting cautiously? When King asked her if the gate agent was just doing her job, as the name on the boarding pass was incorrect, Rivers responded with "It should have been wrong before." Um, it was. And, isn't that Rivers' fault? Unless the airline randomly assigned her a different first name, it sounds more like Rivers—or whoever booked the ticket for her—needs some typing lessons.
Round Three: Rivers vs. Caller
Lastly, watch as Rivers—following a random rant about security and the Salahis that actually goes against her point—gets into it with a last-minute caller who questions her anger toward the gate agent.
Advantage, The Viewer: This was just pure entertainment, plain and simple.
So, after three rounds, who came out on top? Let's find out...
Winner, The Viewer: Come on! The look on her face, the finger wagging, the name calling, the unjustified outrage, and on and on and on—the whole thing was television gold!
We hope you enjoyed it all as much as we did.
