They may be pretty, but they're a pain. Had a neighbor with two of 'em. They attacked anything around 'their' territory, and shrieked all day long like roosters on crack. Fortunately, I live in the sticks. A cougar ate 'em both one night. I'll take a 150-pound cat over those feathered nightmares any day.
Actually, I grew up in a weird little town where some neighbors down the street (between my house and my junior high school bus stop) had pet peacocks, so I have been chased by peacocks.
Grosse Ile, Michigan. Sometimes, it's like "Twin Peaks" without the cool murders.
@Michael Bauser: I grew up in a weird little town in South Carolina. Our parish priest raised peacocks, but he built the pen behind the convent where the nuns who taught at our school lived. Poor nuns; they hated those noisy, smelly, nasty birds. Peacocks can be very mean, and the male starts screeching at dawn.
Ha. A facebook friend of mine just posted a photo of the local peacocks sitting on her car. They are a scurge wherever they appear.
It's Flannery O'Connor's revenge!
