Simon Monjack has been telling the media about his wife's last days. And his version is very different from the picture painted in the press. He calls rumors of drugs and anorexia "crazy."

Everyone who ever met the actress, 32 when she died on Sunday, has given an opinion to a tabloid or a gossip hack somewhere today. But the really intriguing material comes from her husband, and suspected villain, writer and director Simon Monjack. ABC News, in an epic round-up, sum his shady past up thus:

Tabloid reports quickly surfaced that Monjack was a shady businessman facing major debts and deportation for an expired work visa — something both Monjack and Murphy denied as "preposterous lies" to "In Touch Weekly."

Monjack is now talking to those very same preposterous-lie-peddling gossipers! To People magazine:

So many people have their views of us, but they never met us or sat down with us. I'm not perfect, but I don't think anyone is ? I am feeling beyond devastated. I was in love with Brittany and Brittany with me.

These rumors that she was anorexic? It's crazy. She was slim but that was her natural physique. This is what's killing all of us? How did it happen? Her mum, myself and her family, we want to know why we lost our baby.

He also told the magazine he was eager to get an autopsy report — and said squeamishness was why he initially refused one. He said that Murphy had suffered with a heart murmur and that she had been sick in bed the day before she died, treating laryngitis with herbal remedies. The couple ate Thai food and soup made by Murphy's mother that night and watched movies in bed with their cat, Clara.

One of the saddest things is that Clara has looked everywhere for Brittany and can't find her

Monjack told Access Hollywood that Murphy went to the bathroom at about 7.30 the next morning:

[Her mother] Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time. Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then called 911

My world was destroyed
