The Nevada State Board of Health has made a change in brothel regulations that will allow men to be prostitutes—even for other dudes! Seems like some sort of twisted consolation for New York's failed gay marriage bill, right?

Prostitution has been legal in Nevada since 1971, but places like the Shady Lady Ranch have only been allowed to offer up mares, because health regulations required all prostitutes to receive "cervical" tests for STDs. Since guys don't have a cervix, they were essentially banned from being prostitutes. But on Friday, Shady Lady Ranch madam Bobbi Davis successfully petitioned the Nevada State Board of Health to allow men to receive urethral examinations instead. (She was aided, of course, by the ACLU.)

You would think the Nevada Brothel Owners Association would be ecstatic at the idea of tapping into the very large "people who like having sex with men" market. But, no: A spokesman for the brothel association—which, you will remember, makes money by selling sex—likened the changes to the brothel industry's "Pearl Harbor" (Incidentally, "Brothel Pearl Harbor" is a film we would definitely pay $12 to see Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale in.) Reports the Las Vegas Sun

"We've worked hard for years to make the traditional brothel business in this state socially acceptable and something we can be proud of that most Nevadans accept," Flint added. "We have some concerns that this can be diluted by what Ms. Bobbi Davis wants to try."

Flint went on to say that he's proud of the industry's track record in preventing the passage of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, between prostitutes and clients.

"Now we're going to get into an areas that doesn't enjoy the same track record that our industry has enjoyed," he said.

This guy is trying so hard to find some high moral ground from which to look down upon the gays that you almost have to admire him.

But, anyway, congratulations, gays and ladies, on this historic civil rights advancement. Maybe now it will be easier to fuck away the pain of all the many other substantial inequalities you are still subjected to.
