A Swiss court granted Roman Polanski bail at a reported $4.5m. He will be out later this week, if authorities decide not to appeal. Let's take a look at who will be happy about this and who will be sad!

While on bail he'd be electronically tagged, and have to stay in his Swiss chalet. It would also not affect any extradition proceedings. But it will probably make Polanski supporters, who argue that he not should be punished for drugging and anally raping a child because he's won an Oscar since and had a tough life.

A couple of petitions against his arrest featured Martin Scorsese, Salman Rushdie, Milan Kundera, Mike Nichols, Diane von Furstenburg, Monica Bellucci, Tilda Swinton, Woody Allen and Harvey Weinstein, who told CNN that his company was "calling every filmmaker we can to help fix this terrible situation." The novelist Robert Harris even wrote an op-ed about it in the Times.

Those people will be pitted once more against, well, mostly everyone else. Especially people who don't agree with the rape of children.

Emma Thompson, meanwhile, is somewhere in the middle.
