This Day in Video History: The Hollywood Ten
November 25, 1947 The Hollywood Ten Are Blacklisted.
McCarthyism says what? The Red Scare isn't just a comic book villain, it was once a real American fear of commie-conspiracy. Before Glenn Beck there was Joseph McCarthy, and these guys were his most prominent victims. The successful Hollywood writers were accused of communist affections and eventually found themselves imprisoned and/or shipped off to Mexico. It all seemed so unethical, until this cartoon from 1948 was considered. Every time a giant talking hand punishes you God kills a kitten.
