This Day in Video History: Cartoons Are No Longer Silent
On November 18, 1928 Steamboat Willie is released, and the world finally hears Mickey Mouse.
It was the first cartoon with post-production sound, and brought one of the most iconic animated characters in history to life. This Disney milestone has been the subject of numerous copyright extensions since it's release, but is said now to be in the public domain because of a technicality in the original copyright notice.
