Felony charges against girlfriend-slashing New York State Senator Hiram Monserrate, a Democrat who briefly caucused with Republicans until the Democrats bought his loyalty back, will not be dropped.

Last December, Monserrate slashed his girlfriend's face with broken glass. He claimed—and she eventually also claimed—that he tripped while bringing her a glass of water. But a video of Monserrate "dragging" her out of the apartment and her original statement to medical personnel that she had been attacked will be allowed into evidence.

"Sen. Monserrate is wrongly accused and will be vindicated," his lawyer Joe Tacopina said, probably in a really gravelly voice.
