Havard Killing Leads to Rumors of Campus Drug Dealing
The Middlesex, Mass., DA confirmed this morning that the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old in the basement of a Harvard University dorm on Monday was drug-related. The victim, Justin Cosby (pictured), had a pound of pot and $1,000 in cash on him, so it was kind of obvious.
The chief suspect, Jabrai Jordan Copney, who was arrested in New York yesterday, was visiting two unidentified female Harvard students who also knew Cosby—who was not a Harvard student. Copney allegedly made the trip to Cambridge with the intent of robbing Cosby of drugs and cash, and the Harvard girls were "the nexus" between the two men.
The facts that have emerged so far have given way to a swirl of rumors that Cosby was a major supplier to three of the schools Final Clubs, which are their so-called "secret" societies. And since he was visiting the unidentified girl with a pound of pot there is speculation that she was one of his campus distributors. The timing makes sense: finals are ending today, so there is probably a demand spike!
Alternatively, the girls could have just been personal-use buyers, and Cosby could just have carried around way too much pot for his own good when he went out on calls. Either way, it looks like some nice Harvard girls started hanging out with some bad boys.
Copney appears to have been an aspiring hip-hop artist—he is credited as a co-writer of "Feelin' It," a song on New Edition's 2004 record "One Love." Among his collaborators on the song were Jack Knight and Ryan Leslie, who have written or produced songs for Sean Combs/Puff Daddy/P.Diddy/Diddy's Bad Boy Entertainment. A commenter to a Harvard Crimson story on the murders claims that Copney's mother sued her son and Jack Knight Productions when Copney was just 15 years old.
