Jacksonville Produces Early Frontrunner In 'Bipolar Idol'
The American Idol taco truck pulled into Jacksonville last night, where aspirant Darren Darnell—a radioactive people person with a seemingly bottomless bag of party tricks—nominated himself holding tank spirit-squad leader.
His crusade came to an end however, when faced with the brutal elimination of a new friend, whereupon Idol caseworker Ryan Seacrest was swiftly dispatched for an emergency therapy session. Unable to make sense of why bad things happen to good people who happen to be bad singers, Darnell's rendition of Boyz II Men's "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye" suffered as a result, each quivery-lipped, tone-deaf note only serving to further underscore the pain of a forced separation from his bromantic Idol journey-partner. In the end, only Paula-obsoleting know-it-all Kara DioGuardi was capable of delivering the harsh truth, explaining, "[This] is not for you, 'cause the music business is paved with heartache. And if you can't take it in this room, we're doing you a huge solid." Solid, done. [Idol on Fox]
