While the rest of the Defamer masthead hits the slopes and rubs elbows with celebs, we're squatting in the Park City Library for the free internet and warmth. Luckily, there's a vending machine.

WATCH

Friday Night Lights [9 PM, NBC] - Homespun Texas football drama is not just for DirecTV subscribers anymore. NBC finally gives those of us who get our TV from a wire in the ground the third season premiere of FNL. Coach (Kyle Chandler) and Tami (Connie Britton) have a hard time adjusting in the new school year while Smash (Gaius Charles) tries to find his post-high school path after losing his college scholarship due to injury. Tyra (Adrianne Palicki) considers running for student body president. We can't force you to appreciate these small town characters and the appropriately underplayed performances, but we can strongly suggest it.

Wife Swap [8 PM, ABC] - On face, tonight's episode doesn't seem all that interesting: a "coupon-clipping addict" switches with a tanning bed owner who pushes her kids to be popular. But it seems that the tighter Wife Swap squeezes the turnip, the better the results. The obvious contrast episodes - biker mom vs. garden club mom - never quite reach the pyrotechnics the producers hope, but having a budget conscious mom move in with a family where personal sacrifice is not part of their upbringing has the potential for subtlety.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun [9 PM, FUSE] - Disney owns the rights to this property, so watch it now before they remake it with Selena Gomez and and any other chicks they have under contract. New-girl-in-town Janey (Sarah Jessica Parker) loves to dance and is determined to try out for Dance TV with her spunky friend Lynne (Helen Hunt), despite her disapproving father (Ed Lauter) and Catholic school upbringing. This movie is over two decades old and feels like it, but you'll understand Helen Hunt and SJP in new ways.

Barbecue Paradise [9 PM, Travel] - Frequent WTK readers may have noticed that we're a bit food obsessed in 2009. Well, one of our New Year's resolutions was "Less judge shows, more food shows" so we've stuck to it so far. Travel is a great Friday night choice, especially this special covering awesome barbecue joints that serve up anything from brisket to spaghetti. Play along here.

Howie Do It [8 PM, NBC] - We watched some of last week's episode hoping that we could find a way to make it a contrarian choice, but this is truly uninspired. When a comedian gets a show with his name on it, the hope is that it will reflect his personality and work in some way, but in a world where comics will not be getting eponymous sitcoms as frequently as before, this might be the best we can hope for and that is sad as heck.
