Patrick Swayze's struggle with cancer made us uncharacteristically sad today, as we realized that watching Road House might someday be a bittersweet experience. If Swayze can keep a brave face, then we can, too.

WATCH

Barbara Walters Special - Patrick Swayze: The Truth [10 PM, ABC] - We agree that this is cancersploitation, but when the man who gave us Ghost and a little-known indie sleeper called Dirty Dancing dies, we will lose an icon. The always polite Barbara Walters sits down with Patrick and his wife as they open up for the first time about his pancreatic cancer. Some sad moments, some B-roll involving horses, but hopefully some good news about how long he will be with us.

Cyrano de Bergerac [8 PM, PBS] - If you like your cultural enlightenment bookended by fundraising appeals, check out this recording of 2007's production of the English translation of Rostand's great romantic play. Kevin Kline plays the title character who has skill with words but not much in the looks department (if alive today, he would likely be a blogger) and Jennifer Garner plays his love Roxane. We have a problem attending live theatre that involves wanting to tackle the actors on-stage, so we try to get as much of it through the TV as possible.

Big Baby: Deadly Condition [10 PM, Discovery Health] - If you like your medical enlightenment focused mainly around seriously messed up shit, Discovery Health is always a strong move. Tonight's hour of brilliance is about Archie, a baby who grows abnormally fast to the confusion of his parents and doctors. For a comic take on the subject, check out Jack, the Francis Ford Coppola-directed (we triple-checked that fact) heartwarming comedy starring Robin Williams as a very hairy child.

Damages [10 PM, FX] - We're not going to be able to watch much tonight except Swayze's sitdown, especially a show that requires active viewing. Season two premieres tonight with Patty (Glenn Close) hooking up a charity foundation when an acquaintance (William Hurt) asks for her help in a corporate-malfeasance case. Ellen (Rose Byrne) also seeks Patty's help in a case involving child malnutrition. Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa guest-star as themselves. If you are trying to jump on the Damages train now, we offer the following advice: Sit back, enjoy the ride, it will all sort of work out for no one in the end.

The 35th Annual People's Choice Awards [9 PM, CBS] - Whether it's fan balloting for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game to people purposefully voting for bad contestants on American Idol, we have always felt that leaving voting up to the plebs is a necessary evil to keep America interested. But the People's Choice Awards have managed to become a punchline while interesting almost no one except for network, music and film studio PR departments who will be trumpeting their wins throughout the spring. Queen Latifah hosts tonight's ceremony that bestows strange awards like "Favorite Star Under 35." Is there a book of rules governing these awards? 'Star must have reached no more than 34 years and 364 days within eligibility period?'
