There is not much new programming this week, but after Monday night's Bromance caused our liver to produce bile at an elevated rate, we need something safe and chalky to soothe our TV tummies.

WATCH

Happy New Year, Charlie Brown! [8 PM, ABC] - It's a good chance you've never seen this Peanuts holiday special, and as the rights to the property seem to shift every few years, you should take advantage of this airing. This time we find Charlie having to wade through War and Peace during a New Year's party. This has never been released on DVD, but if it does, they had better include the deleted drunk party scenes where Linus rolls a fatty with his blanket and Peppermint Patty/Marcie go from close friends to scissor sisters.

Good Eats: Circle of Life [8:30 PM, Food Network] - We used to dismiss Alton Brown's semi-flippant attitude as an annoying quirk but Good Eats has been on for almost a decade and he has officially grown on us. In this episode, Alton teaches us how to make doughnuts at home and passes along some of the history and science behind the beloved pastry. Alton's too talky/weird to make food porn, but we'll watch Giada De Laurentiis to fulfill those needs.

TiVo

High School High [8:30 PM, The Movie Channel] - There are five good jokes in this Jon Lovitz-Tia Carrere broad comedy that lampoons films like Dangerous Minds and Blackboard Jungle, while they are sort of hard to find, Lovitz gets you through it. If you get a chance, rewatch some of the older David Zucker-written films (The Naked Gun, Airplane!), and you'll hear bits of non sequitur humor that has come back en vogue bigtime on 30 Rock and Family Guy.

The Wild Bunch [8 PM, AMC] - We speak of this film with a reverence usually reserved for deceased royalty or a product we loved that is no longer on the market (Hydrox cookies, we hardly knew ye) and wish that even the most Western-averse amateur cinephile's give it a few watchings. Using then-groundbreaking techniques like slow motion shots in action scenes and rapid cross-cutting, director and co-writer Sam Peckinpah redefined the Western and the action film for every subsequent generation of filmmakers. The story is simple: a band of outlaws are getting too old for this shit, but the execution is complicated and brilliant.

KILL

Chill Factor [11:30 PM, Cinemax] - Everyone we know tells us that they watch The Hills or The City because it's "so bad, it's good." Well, we agree that sometimes entertainment is unintentionally funny, but we are not going to pretend that a show or film has redeeming value when something better could have been made with those resources. Chill Factor is a good example of this phenomenon: A Speed rip-off starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Skeet Ulrich as two civilians who have to keep a dangerous chemical weapon below 50 degrees in an ice cream truck. There are some cheesy lines and laughable moments, but it's not a good movie and not worth anyone's time.
