One More Excuse to Go Shopping
Skip the gym this weekend. Go shopping instead and you'll be multi-tasking without even realizing it. According to a study conducted in Britain—and commissioned by a department store, naturally—a three-hour shopping expedition burns off enough calories to make up for eating a Big Mac:
The average woman burns around 385 calories—the equivalent of a piece of carrot cake or two large glasses of wine—trudging around stores each week. They notch up 154 miles a year—the same distance as hiking from London to Nottingham—hunting for bargains.
Or, to put it in slightly more local terms, hiking from Manhattan to Woodbury Commons three times.
