Dallas 5 Islanders 3: This one was over quickly and Mike Ribeiro was the chief reason why. Dallas scored just three minutes into the game on the power play as Ribeiro setup Loui Eriksson. Ribeiro setup two more goals in the first period as the Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Bill Guerin briefly gave the Islanders hope with a goal midway through the second, but Ribeiro struck again, getting his fourth assist on a goal just three minutes later. And, to cap off his night, Ribeiro scored a goal of his own to record his fifth point of the night and put Dallas up 5-1.
Despite the big deficit, the Islanders didn’t pull Rick DiPietro and they made the score respectable with goals by Mark Streit and Jon Sim.
Chicago 5 Red Bulls 2: It was very simple, a victory and the Red Bulls would have been in the playoffs. Now things aren’t simple anymore. Chicago scored three goals in the first half and then added two more to put the game away in the second.
The Red Bulls will now have to wait and see what happens with D.C. United and their game on Sunday. A D.C. win and the Red Bulls miss the playoffs. A D.C. loss or tie and the Red Bulls make it in.
