Out-of-towners might be out of luck if they visit New York over the holidays hoping to take a double-decker bus tour of the city. The union that represents guides at Gray Line is threatening a strike when its contract expires this month, according to New York. The guides' chief complaint? Pay, naturally (they make $16.73 an hour; they want it raised to $20). But the guides are also concerned with the harsh working conditions, like having to give tours from the top of a double-decker when it's two degrees outside, and the wind chill makes it even colder since they're standing on top of a bus moving at 30 MPH. But their unhappiness about the frosty work environment doesn't seem to have had an effect on Gray Line's promotional plans. The company is now offering tourists the option to eat a "delectable" meal aboard the bus.

A kind reader pointed our attention to an ad hyping Gray Line's "brand new" Dining on the Town Tour, which promises tourists that they can "enjoy a unique dining experience" as they "sit high above the streets of NYC on a Gray Line New York deluxe double-decker bus." And they give you three dinner menus to choose from:

Chicken Marsala
Tender Boneless Chicken Breast Sautéed with Mushrooms and gently braised in a velvety Marsala Wine Sauce. Served with Rice Pilaf and Fresh Steamed Vegetables.

NY Strip Steak
The perfect cut of strip steak grilled to perfection and served with a Burgundy Wine Sauce. Accompanied by Roasted Fingerling Potatoes and Fresh Steamed Vegetables.

Grilled Vegetable Medley
An assortment of Fresh Garden Vegetables seasoned with Fresh Herbs and then Grilled. Served with hearty brown rice and a Spicy Tomato Ragout.

All meals include fresh salad with dressing, dinner roll with butter and choice of soft drink or water.

Why it is that Gray Line thinks anyone would come to New York, the dining capital of the universe, to eat airplane food on a moving bus isn't clear. And it certainly costs more than airplane food! The three menus listed above all cost $59.
