Artist and designer of the now-iconic Vuitton handbags, Takashi Murakami, is auctioning off several pieces in Sotheby's upcoming spring auctions. The most valuable, estimated between $3-4 million, is a sculpture of a manga dude, um, "ejaculating in lasso-like form," titled "My Lonesome Cowboy." Hey, it's not NSFW if it's art.

My boyfriend and I played a fun game when we went to the Murakami exhibition at Brooklyn Museum: we stood near the cum-cloud sculpture for a few minutes and watched people's facial expressions as they turned around the corner and realized what they were seeing. Priceless every time.

@Shariahpants: I think he's overrated and disingenuous, but you're right about his formal dexterity. I just wish he'd lose the Warholian Japanationalism BS that weighs down the subversive potential of early stuff like this (though it's made him rich, so who am I to whine?).

@BeRightBack: I also love the way they have it displayed in the Brooklyn Museum right now: there are large paintings on each wall that look like ab-ex pictures of white ribbons on a colored background - and then you see manga dude, and realize what the ribbons are...
