There's no such thing as a free brunch. But seriously, though...the similarities here are undeniable. There's a play button! Volume control! The same play bar slider thingy! And the expand button uses four arrows! And they both play back video!!! CAN I HAZ CREDIT FUR DEZINING TEH OBVIUS?
Comparing how many people use Flickr vs Vimeo isn't a fair argument against Flickr stealing Vimeo's player design cues. We should be thanking Zach's work at Vimeo for putting pressure on Flickr to expand their services in a more elegant form (non-intrusive player controls) and not in a rag tag hideous YouTube way.
