Richard Florida, the oft-quoted author of The Rise of the Creative Class, has helpfully mapped out the singles populations of American cities. What do we learn? There are too many girls in New York, but boys are plentiful in California. God, just like we've always suspected: East coast men have their pick of the litter, but as for females, it seems we have a choice: either become aggressively, desperately self-promoting, "branding" our singleness (Julia Allison?), or go West, where it's going to be 74 and sunny on Friday.
